Content Coordinator - American Indian History

Ohio History Connection Main Campus, Columbus, Ohio

The Content Coordinator - Native American History position in the Student and Teacher Services Department is responsible for creating and implementing high quality American Indian content that meets the needs of teachers and students. This person will develop engaging, innovative, and standards-aligned activities, lessons, and programs together with their department peers, as well as review American Indian programmatic materials for publications and exhibits. The person will be a dynamic presenter and unafraid to network with museum peers, teachers and tribal partners. The work is in a fast-paced environment. This position may require overnight travel both in-state and occasionally out of state and weekend hours.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging and innovative American Indian content activities, lessons, and programs, including, but not limited to: curriculum; lesson plans; historical thinking activities; workshops; field trips; virtual learning experiences; professional development programs, etc.
  • Review programmatic materials with American Indian content for both print and digital publications as well as exhibits
  • Provide presentations and professional development for educators in a variety of settings
  • Write grade-appropriate educational materials following Ohio Department of Education standards
  • Ensure quality control throughout educational materials including copy editing
  • Work with and manage relationships with outside contractors, OHC staff and partnering organizations.

Education and Experience:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Arts and Humanities or other appropriate field from an accredited university, plus a minimum of three years' professional experience in one of the above mentioned fields. Experience working in partnership with federally recognized tribal communities required. Classroom or museum education experience is preferred.


Knowledge:

This position requires an understanding of Ohio's American Indian history and using Native Ways of Knowing to present American Indian history and culture to students in grades K-12. A knowledge of working in partnership with federally recognized tribal communities required. An understanding of Ohio's educational landscape, including educational standards is preferred.
